Dangerous Goods

DANGEROUS GOODS

PORT RAILWAY practices its own reliable Dangerous Goods Teams. Our regions of Europe and Mediterranean, all have their own handling procedures for DG application and approval procedures.
Our DG coordinators offer shippers all the advice that is required. A shipper's or customer's Dangerous Goods cargo will be checked promptly and accurately. Legal requirements concerning all the countries/regions, terminals and ports related to transport are taken into account.

In addition, PORT RAILWAY ensures safe transport by observing the relevant stowage and segregation requirements of dangerous goods. This gives additional safety to the cargo, the train, the crew, cargo handlers and the overall environment. PORT RAILWAY's DG teams are also available to discuss all issues regarding the different international and domestic regulations and help customers find solutions for special arrangements and exemptions via our relations to the transport authorities in countries/regions around the world.
PORT RAILWAY follow the regulations establish by the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) www.otif.org

RID

RID applies to international traffic and, via Directive 2008/68/EC, to national traffic within the EU Member States. The dangerous goods provisions are the result of close cooperation with the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and they also apply to carriage by road and inland waterways.

Twice a year, OTIF and the UNECE organise an RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting which ensures simple multimodal transport for dangerous goods by rail, road and inland waterways.

For obvious safety reasons, RID has to be able to develop rapidly. Appendix C and its annex (RID) are revised every two years using the simplified procedure, in parallel with the revision of the UN Model Regulations, which contains recommendations for all modes of transport concerning the carriage of dangerous goods.

The working groups, the RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting and the RID Committee of Experts work to maintain regulations that reflect as closely as possible the reality of dangerous goods transport.
